Holding the guitar correctly

How to play the guitar

Playing the guitar for the very first time can be extremely awkward for your body, because it isn't really a natural position. Remembering to relax as a first time guitar player is essential; many beginners are very keen on picking up the guitar and playing it with little or no practice which just isn't possible. Even if you do everything suggested to you here, playing guitar still might and probably will, feel awkward but should not be painful in anyway.

Making sure you choose the right chair for your height can sometimes be critical. How to identify the right height chair? When you sit down on the chair your knees should slightly angle upwards. If you cannot find a chair allows you to do this then I would suggest maybe playing on a stool where you can place your foot on the highest foot rest available, or getting a couple of phone books and placing them under your feet. The reason we want this slight angle is because playing the guitar on your tiptoes can be extremely draining even after a short period of time.

Making sure when you play the guitar that your body position is correct is sometimes not always easy. A quick way to make sure you are in the correct position is to always have your back straight and your arms and legs in the correct positions. to ensure you do not hurt your back, make sure you keep the guitar straight so you do not hunch over looking at the frets you are trying to play.

If you're right-handed put the guitar on your right knee, the guitar should be kept straight, with the neck of the guitar slightly angling upward as the guitar's neck gets further away from your body. When you're a beginner it can sometimes be difficult playing the guitar without looking at the frets, by tilting the neck of the guitar towards you, you will gain visibility of the frets and be able to play much easier.

the most common error among young guitarists is the positioning of the fretting hand. The positioning of the fretting hand is really important, it is vital to put your left thumb halfway between the bottom of the guitar neck and the top. once your thumb is that act as if you're not pick up a hammer and your hands around it as if you were pick it up. If you wish a comfortable and relaxed guitar playing experience then follow these steps and you will enjoy playing guitar for years to come.
